Is Watching TV Still a Favourite Pastime?

the image is of an old tv on legs resting on a side table; next to it is a basket of flowers. the image is sepia toned to give the impression of age.

It was a rainy Saturday, so I spent the better part of it reading and watching Cable TV. I only watch The Game Show Network, watching people winning and smiling make me feel good. But those commercials were killing me — three minutes and thirty seconds, at what felt like every three minutes, was talking the fun out of it.

Why am I paying a cable bill to watch commercials anyway? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? At the end of a month, I tally all the commercials that I have watched, and send my bill to the cable company for payment. Just like how there are secret shoppers, persons paid to shop, I think there should be secret commercial watchers.

Yes, I know there are techy ways to avoid the commercials, but if I can get 0.01cent per watch, why not go for it?

These commercials are mostly ads pushing some kind of drug, and the comment, ask your doctor if ABC might not be right for you is said every single time. If 5% of persons who look at these ads, go to their doctors asking if ABC might not be right for them, I am sure many doctors are ready to fire their patients.

And that is not the worse part, it is when they say, if you have X disease, it means that you have a greater than average chance of developing Y disease, ask your doctor if ABC might not be right for you.

So they are offering us treatment A to treat our current ailments in order to preempt our body’s natural breaking down process, by telling us to get B.

I see.

☕☕☕ — Thank you for supporting my work.

Last Sunday’s story is here.

My recently completed story series, Welcome to the Happy Farm is free for digital download, or you can get the updated version at my Ko-fi shop.

It is a story about a story about my relationship with my friend John and his, ehem, alien friend, Mystic Man — I have reason to believe he is an alien; I have not figured it all as yet, but his eyes glows. I wonder if he is a spiritual teacher.

If your spiritual teacher’s eyes do not glow and flash light, you are not following the right person. I have written about it:-

I am author to two books of tiny stories, Chronicles of an Awakening Soul (2021) and Let the Sun Shine on My Face (2022); both are available here.
